Peace Workshop Series:
Non-Violent Communication: A Tool for De-escalation on May 3
The next session of our Peace Workshop series is on May 3 at 12:30pm in the Lower Elementary Classroom with a workshop for Non-Violent Communication led by Daniel Montañez, Executive Director of the Center for Public Theology and Migration as well as the co-editor of The Church & Migration / La Iglesia y la Migración.
This workshop will be an introduction to non-violent communication as a practical framework for reducing conflict and fostering understanding. Drawing on his work in public theology and migration, Daniel Montañez highlights how intentional listening, empathy, and clear expression can de-escalate tense situations. The talk emphasizes communication as both a personal skill and a social tool for building more just and compassionate communities. Attendees are encouraged to apply these strategies in everyday interactions as well as in broader contexts of conflict and division.
This workshop is open to the public so feel free to invite others. Childcare will also be provided. Visit centralsquare.church/peace-workshops to sign up for childcare, for more information and future topics coming up.
ALPHA
Join ALPHA – Thursdays at 7pm at CSC
This Spring we are excited to be bringing back our “Alpha” class! Alpha is a fun dinner series followed by group conversations designed for those who would not identify as Christians and are interested in exploring life, spirituality, and faith through a Christian lens in a relaxed, non-judgmental environment.
Everyone is welcome. Join us to share a meal together, watch a short video, and converse about life questions. You can also come and invite a friend to attend!
Please let us know if you can make it so we have enough food. But feel free to drop by if you’re not sure yet! To sign up go to centralsquare.church/alpha.
This spring, you’ve been invited to participate in CSC Engage, a church-wide prayer and discernment project about the future life of our church. Almost 150 of us have participated so far! As we approach the end of CSC Engage, we’d like to highlight two opportunities:
1. (NEW!) Please complete the CSC Engage Ministry Exploration Survey by May 17! Complete the survey here.
This short survey (7–10 minutes) will help the staff team and Church Mission Council better understand the congregation’s gifts, interests, and availability for participating in—and growing—CSC ministries. We invite all attendees (6th grade and up) to share your honest responses so we can better serve our community and help everyone get connected to what God is doing in our church.
Note: the questions asked are different from the questions asked during the CSC Engage listening prayer sessions, so please plan to do both!
2. It’s not too late to attend a CSC Engage discernment & prayer session! Register here.
The sessions have been meaningful and encouraging, and if you haven’t participated yet, we’d love to have you in the mix as we listen to God together. The final general sessions (including four virtual sessions) are on:
- Sunday, May 17; 12:30-2 in the church lounge (snack and childcare provided) – last chance to do an in-person session!
- Monday, May 4; 7-8:30pm Virtual
- Friday, May 8; 8:30-10pm Virtual
- Tuesday, May 12; 8-9:30pm Virtual
- Wednesday, May 13; 7-8:30pm Virtual
Please use the button below to register for a virtual session and receive the meeting link. Or if you need childcare for the May 17 session, please sign up by May 13 so that we can confirm we have enough helpers.
